Exemptions

The vehicle weight of many of the 16 passenger seat minibuses manufactured after 2003 are in excess of 3500 kg. Individuals who do not have D1 entitlement on their licence may find it becomes more difficult to legally drive minibuses as the majority will exceed the 3500 kg limit.

 

Voluntary (Unpaid) Basis

 

There appears to be various interpretations of what constitutes a driver providing their services on a voluntary / unpaid basis means and therefore this is a grey area.

This situation seems to present an increasing problem to educational establishments where an increasing number of staff do not have D1 entitlement on their licence.
